Last term we focused on life science in conjunction with Next Generation Science Standards. We created a pollinator garden, learned the parts and needs of a plant, did some lasagna mulching to save water, created a worm tower or compost tower ( the white buckets in the middle of each bed), learned about where worms live and much more. Ms. Joanna’s class B9 partnered with us to make our flower and bug dreams come true. We did three centers two art centers and one sensory center outside in our garden. Our goal was to create a self-sustaining garden that used almost no water and that also attracted beneficial insects like monarch butterflies and ladybugs. When we planted last fall we saw ladybugs and some caterpillars. This spring we saw the fruits of our labor. Monarch butterflies and their cocoons!
