LAUSD Board Member Nick Melvoin Visits Van Ness Elementary

Parents and Administrators were eager to hear from our new board member Nick Melvoin last week as he made his rounds visiting local schools in his area. About 25 parents were present at the meeting on Wednesday Oct 11th, and many were able to use the schools brand new translation headsets for the first time! Many thanks go out to School Coordinator Mr Santiesteban for his quick and clear translation of the meeting into Spanish and English!

Many Van Ness parents expressed concerns and posed questions to Mr. Melvoin in regards to how his office can help us increase enrollment of both the school and the VI program. Some also expressed their concerns about any future charter school co-location on the Van Ness campus. Mr. Melvoin seemed spirited and willing to address concerns. One of his office staff, Clayton Rosa, was in attendance and took additional questions after Mr. Melvoin had to excuse himself to make another meeting. Parents expressed a strong desire to stay in contact with Mr. Rosa and Mr. Melvoin in order to further discuss and implement strategies to assist in increasing enrollment.

Mr Rosa also encouraged parents to reach out to him via email with other ideas and questions clayton.rosa@lausd.net
